Presentation at Elementary School

Teaching Philosophy

My pedagogical views focus around inclusive teaching, and I believe we need to train our educators to support students with different backgrounds, cultures, and identities. As a teaching assistant and undergraduate mentor, I realize I have an enormous influence on student success, so I have taken all preparations to strengthen my skills and be equitable and inclusive.

Mentoring

As a mentor to undergraduate theses and independent projects, I can see the effect that hands-on participation in research has on student growth and how the right amount of support can help under-graduates gain independence and become critically thinking scientists. I believe in building student's science identities and providing them opportunities to learn through research.

Outreach

I have implemented my teaching ideas in the community, as an outreach officer in WiSE working with underrepresented K-12 students doing hands-on science activities and as a high-school mentor for the UCSC SIP program bringing high schoolers into the lab to experience university-level research.
